The Second Coming of Christ
“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” —Matthew 24:44 (ESV)
Opening Prayer
Lord God Almighty,
We come before You with humble hearts and eager ears. Stir in us an urgency, a watchfulness, and a deep yearning for the return of our Savior. May Your Word remind us that this world is not our home, and our hope is not in what we see, but in the glorious return of Jesus Christ. Teach us to live in readiness, not fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The Promise of His Return
The Second Coming is not a myth or metaphor. It is a promise—spoken by Jesus Himself.
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
—John 14:3 (ESV)
Jesus came once in humility, born in a manger. He will return in glory, riding the clouds. The early church lived with this promise on their lips: “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20)
His return is not just about judgment. It is about restoration—setting all things right, wiping away every tear, and establishing His everlasting Kingdom.
What Will It Be Like?
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.”
—1 Thessalonians 4:16 (ESV)
Scripture paints a vivid picture:
- There will be no mistake.
It will not be hidden or secret. Every eye will see Him (Revelation 1:7). - It will be sudden.
“Like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Unexpected. Unscheduled. But certain. - It will be glorious.
No longer the suffering Servant—Jesus returns as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Why Does It Matter Today?
In a world filled with war, sorrow, injustice, and confusion, the Second Coming gives us hope. When the news overwhelms and the world seems upside down, remember:
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.”
—Revelation 21:4 (ESV)
It also gives us purpose. We do not live aimlessly. We are on mission. Every day is a gift to love, serve, and point others to Christ.
And it calls us to readiness.
“Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.”
—Luke 12:43 (ESV)
Living in Readiness
So how should we live?
- With Faithful Obedience
Live like today could be the day He returns. - With Urgency to Share the Gospel
We are ambassadors of a coming Kingdom. Our mission is urgent—because the time is short. - With Hope, Not Fear
The Second Coming is not something to dread for the believer—it is our blessed hope.
“Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
—Titus 2:13 (ESV)
A Modern Reminder
Imagine you were told Jesus would return in 30 days. How would your life change?
Would you:
- Forgive more quickly?
- Speak to your neighbors about salvation?
- Reorder your priorities?
The truth is, we don’t know the day or hour—but we do know He is coming. So let us live now as if that day is today.
Don’t Be Caught Unaware
Jesus warned:
“As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man… they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away.”
—Matthew 24:37–39 (ESV)
People were busy eating, drinking, marrying—just living life. And then judgment came.
The warning is clear: Don’t sleepwalk through this life.
Closing Encouragement
Brothers and sisters, Jesus is coming again.
- Not as a baby in a manger—but as a reigning King.
- Not to suffer—but to reign.
- Not to be rejected—but to be worshiped.
Let’s be a church awake, alert, and alive with purpose.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
We wait for You. Come quickly. But until that day, help us be faithful—serving, witnessing, forgiving, and loving with urgency. Strengthen our hope and keep our eyes fixed on Heaven. May we live each day ready to meet You, and may we draw others to You while there is still time.
In Your holy name,
Amen.
Maranatha. Come, Lord Jesus.
