God’s Redemption in Exodus

Welcome

The Book of Exodus is one of the most dramatic, powerful accounts in all of Scripture. It’s the story of God rescuing His people from slavery, revealing His covenant, and dwelling among them. Exodus is not just ancient history—it’s our story too. We may not have been slaves in Egypt, but without Christ, we were slaves to sin. And the same God who delivered Israel is the same God who delivers, guides, and dwells with us today.

God Delivers His People

Exodus 3:7–8 (ESV):
“Then the LORD said, ‘I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them…

  • God heard the cries of His people in Egypt and acted in power.
  • He raised up Moses—a man preserved from death as an infant—to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel out.
  • The ten plagues demonstrated God’s supremacy over Egypt’s false gods.
  • The Passover lamb foreshadowed Jesus Christ, our Lamb of God, whose blood saves us from death.

Application: God still hears the cries of His people today. When we feel trapped in sin, fear, or hardship, He is faithful to deliver. We must trust His timing and His way.

God Guides His People

Exodus 13:21–22 (ESV):
“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light…”

  • God did not just free Israel and leave them to wander. He guided them every step.
  • The parting of the Red Sea shows His power to make a way where there is no way.
  • Even in the wilderness, God provided manna and water.

Application: Just as the pillar of cloud and fire guided Israel, God’s Word and the Holy Spirit guide us. We must follow His lead, even when the path looks uncertain.

God Makes a Covenant With His People

Exodus 19:5–6 (ESV):
“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples…”

  • At Mount Sinai, God gave the Ten Commandments—His moral law for His people.
  • This was not just about rules, but relationship—God calling His people to holiness because He is holy.
  • The covenant was sealed with blood, pointing forward to the new covenant in Christ’s blood.

Application: God’s commands are not burdens but blessings, guiding us to live in a way that reflects His character.

God Dwells With His People

Exodus 25:8 (ESV):
“And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.”

  • The Tabernacle was the visible sign of God’s presence with Israel.
  • Every detail of the Tabernacle pointed forward to Jesus, our true meeting place with God.
  • God desires to dwell among His people—and now, through Christ, He dwells within us by His Spirit.

Application: We are called to live as people who carry the presence of God, showing His glory to the world.

The Message for Us Today

  • God still delivers (from sin, fear, bondage).
  • God still guides (through His Word and Spirit).
  • God still calls us into covenant relationship (through Christ).
  • God still dwells with us (through the Holy Spirit).

The story of Exodus is a story of redemption. It’s your story if you have put your faith in Jesus Christ.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Just as You delivered Israel from Egypt, You have delivered us from the power of sin through the blood of Jesus. Teach us to follow Your guidance, to live in covenant obedience, and to carry Your presence wherever we go. May our lives tell the story of Your great redemption.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
