God’s Plan: For Moses

Scripture Reading:

Exodus 2:9–10 (ESV)

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

Welcome

The story of Moses begins with danger. Pharaoh had issued a decree that all Hebrew baby boys be killed. Yet, God was already writing a rescue plan. Moses’ life was spared in the most unlikely way—by Pharaoh’s own daughter.

But God did not just rescue Moses so he could live a comfortable life in the palace. He rescued him so he could be used mightily to set God’s people free.

That’s how God works. When He rescues you, it’s never just for you—it’s so you can serve Him and help others.

God Rescues Us from the Enemy’s Plans

Exodus 2:3–6 (ESV)

When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes… She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.

Pharaoh planned destruction. God planned deliverance. The basket in the Nile looked like desperation, but it was actually the beginning of divine destiny.

Application: The enemy has plans to destroy lives today through sin, fear, and hopelessness. But God is greater—He rescues and redeems.

God Often Uses Unlikely People to Accomplish His Will

Pharaoh’s daughter—part of the very family oppressing Israel—became the one to protect Moses.

1 Corinthians 1:27 (ESV) reminds us:

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.

Application: God can use anyone, even those outside the faith, to protect and position His people for their calling.

God Prepares Us Before He Uses Us

Moses spent 40 years in Egypt learning leadership and law. Then 40 years in the wilderness learning humility and dependence on God.

Acts 7:30 (ESV) says:

Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness…

God didn’t rush Moses into leadership. He shaped him through both palace training and wilderness trials.

Application: If you feel like you’re in a waiting season, remember—God is preparing you for something bigger than you can see.

God Uses the Rescued to Bring Rescue to Others

When God called Moses at the burning bush, He made it clear—this wasn’t just about Moses’ story. It was about Israel’s deliverance.

Exodus 3:10 (ESV)

Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people… out of Egypt.

Application: Salvation is not the finish line—it’s the starting line. God saves us so we can share His salvation with others.

God’s Power Is Greater Than Our Weakness

Moses doubted himself—he said he couldn’t speak well enough. But God promised to be with him.

Exodus 4:12 (ESV)

Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.

Application: Your limitations don’t limit God. If He rescued you, He can equip you.

Conclusion

Moses was rescued as a baby, raised in an unlikely place, trained through years of preparation, and then used by God to deliver an entire nation.

That same God is still rescuing and calling today. If you’ve been saved by Jesus, it’s not just so you can live a safe life—it’s so you can be part of His rescue mission for others.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for rescuing us from the grip of sin and death through Jesus Christ. Just as You had a plan for Moses, You have a plan for each of us. Give us courage to follow Your call, strength to face our Pharaohs, and faith to lead others toward Your freedom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
