Wise and Foolish Builders

The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24–27 ESV)

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

— Matthew 7:24–27 (ESV)

What Are You Building Your Life On?

This parable is short, but the message is rock-solid: It’s not enough to hear the Word—you must build your life on it.

In modern times, many build their lives on unstable foundations:

  • Career success
  • Social approval
  • Wealth
  • Relationships
  • Self-help philosophies

But when life’s storms come—and they will—only one foundation will stand: obedience to Jesus Christ.

The wise builder hears and obeys. His faith is not just felt—it’s lived out.

The foolish builder hears the same truth but does nothing with it. He may look secure on the outside, but he’s one storm away from collapse.

Jesus isn’t offering weather-proofing; He’s offering soul security.

So ask yourself:

  • Do I just admire Jesus, or am I following Him?
  • Am I building on shifting feelings—or eternal truth?

The storm reveals the structure.
If you want to stand firm in every season—build on the Rock.
